Lubricant is a liquid or semi-solid lubricating substance used in various types of vehicles and mechanical equipment to reduce friction and protect the machinery and components; it serves functions such as lubrication, auxiliary cooling, rust prevention, cleaning, sealing, and cushioning (Roab). Any substance that is applied between two objects in relative motion and can reduce the friction and wear resulting from their contact is considered a lubricant.
Lubricant is used to improve the friction conditions of friction pairs in order to reduce frictional resistance and slow down wear.
It reduces friction, protects machinery and workpieces, and primarily serves functions such as lubrication, cooling, rust prevention, cleaning, sealing, and cushioning.
1. Reducing friction and high-temperature effects: A sufficiently thick oil film separates the surfaces of parts that are in relative motion, thereby reducing wear. 2. Sealing function: Engine oil can create a seal between the piston rings and the piston, reducing gas leakage and preventing external contaminants from entering. 3. Rust prevention: Lubricants can adhere to the surface of parts, preventing water, air, acidic substances, and harmful gases from coming into contact with those parts. 4. Buffering effect: When the pressure at the engine cylinder ports rises sharply, it suddenly increases the load on the piston, piston rings, connecting rod, and crankshaft bearings. The lubrication provided by these bearings helps to buffer against this impact load. 5. Cleaning effect: Good engine oil is capable of carrying carbon deposits, sludge, and worn metal particles from the engine components back to the oil tank. Through the flow of the lubricating oil, it washes away the dirt that forms on the working surfaces of these components.
Lubricants primarily serve to lubricate, cool, prevent rust, clean, seal, and cushion. First, lubrication provides wear resistance; reducing frictional forces helps save energy and extends the lifespan of machinery. The second cooling system allows friction heat to be removed from the machine at any time. Third, rust prevention: it prevents chemical reactions on the surface of machinery by isolating it from air, thus preventing rusting. The fourth seal prevents gas leakage and dust contamination, maintaining sealed conditions. The fifth cleaning step removes the dirt from the friction areas on the surface of the machinery.
