What is the difference between C4, mixed C4, and post-ether C4?
Here’s my understanding: Carbon tetra refers to the light carbon tetra obtained through the separation towers in the catalytic gas separation unit; it contains butane, cis-2-butene, and trans-2-butene, with relatively little pentane present, making it a relatively pure form of light carbon tetra； Mixed C4 refers to the C4 components separated through thermal cracking in a cracking furnace; it has not undergone separation of light and heavy C4 fractions, contains numerous impurities, and has a significant impact on the subsequent production processes as well as the use of catalysts ； Etherified C4: refers to the collectively term for the C4 compounds remaining after extraction with 1,3-butadiene and subsequent removal of isobutylene through an etherification reaction.
Here, what is referred to as carbon four is the carbon four obtained after gas separation, and it is used as a raw material for MTBE; the ether-derived carbon four that results from the MTBE reaction is what is referred to as carbon four；
