Ethylene cracking tar is a product of the high-temperature condensation of the raw materials and products during the steam cracking process of ethylene cracking feedstocks. The composition of ethylene cracking tar is extremely complex; components such as indene, methylindene and their homologs, naphthalene, methylnaphthalene, ethynaphthalene, dimethylnaphthalene, as well as anthracene, acenaphthene, and phenanthrene, which are present in relatively high amounts, serve as important raw materials for organic chemical synthesis. Foreign pyrolytic tar is mainly used as a raw material for producing carbon black. In our country, pyrolysis tar is primarily used in the production of road asphalt, as well as as a fuel; only a small portion of it is utilized in the production of carbon black through imported equipment, for use in domestic delayed coking units.
