The toluene column in the styrene distillation unit has a benzene yield at the top of the column of 1.2 tons per day. The price difference between benzene and toluene is around 400; could this tower be shut down in order to save energy? It is said that toluene is only added to gasoline, with no specific testing parameters. But I always feel that shutting down the tower does help save energy, yet there are still maintenance costs associated with having the device inactive. I’m not sure how you guys use this tower with the same unit; do you have any good experiences to share?
How big are your devices? The BT tower’s output is so low!
