On July 6, 2021, the first phase of Sinopec’s 500,000 tons per year PGA (polyglycolic acid) production project in Guizhou was launched; PGA is a type of new biodegradable plastic material. The predecessor of this project was Sinopec’s Guizhou coal-to-olefins project, with an estimated investment of around 23 billion. On February 18, 2021, the draft environmental impact assessment for Sinopec Great Wall Energy Chemical (Guizhou) Co., Ltd.’s 500,000 tons per year polyglycolic acid (PGA) production project was made public for comments. The original \"600,000-ton polyolefin project\" will not be carried out any longer; instead, a new \"500,000-ton per year polylactic acid (PGA) project\" by Sinopec Great Wall Energy Chemicals (Guizhou) Co., Ltd. is to be built at the original site. On July 6, the groundbreaking ceremony for the first phase of Sinopec Guizhou’s 500,000-ton per year PGA project was held in Zhijin County, Bijie City. Zhang Yuzhuo, Chairman of the Group Company and Secretary of its Party Leadership Group, Chen Yiqin, Secretary of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and President of the Provincial People’s Congress, and Li Bingjun, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor of the province, attended the inauguration ceremony.
