Recently, the \"double restrictions\" policy has forced many factories to operate in a limited-production mode, resulting in a significant reduction in their production capacity. Now, another large factory has suffered a fire, causing millions of tons of production capacity to come to a halt! According to foreign media reports, on November 1, a cracking furnace at Shell’s facility in Pulau Bukom caught fire due to technical issues! According to sources, the cracking unit has been taken out of service and will undergo maintenance for a week; Shell has informed some buyers of ethylene and propylene of a reduced supply. According to statistics, this cracking unit has a production capacity of 1 million tons/year of ethylene and 500,000 tons/year of propylene. In addition, the production of this cracking unit is primarily used for its derivative plants, including a 250,000-ton/year propylene oxide plant or a 550,000-ton/year styrene plant, a 70,000-ton/year isopropanol plant that was restarted in May 2020, and a 750,000-ton/year ethylene glycol plant. The 350,000 tons per year vinyl acetate plant of Dalian Chemical in Taiwan, China, and Prime Evolue’s metallocene-based hexene process LLDPE facility on Jurong Island in Singapore are both its major downstream buyers for ethylene ; Its propylene production is mainly supplied to Changchun Chemical’s 194,000 tons per year isopropylbenzene plant and Mitsui Phenol’s 151,000 tons per year isopropylbenzene plant. It is reported that the comprehensive facility here also has a butadiene extraction unit with an output of 18.6 tons per year, yet its purchaser has not received any notice of supply cuts to date. Additionally, Sinopec Shell’s first cracking unit in Guangdong has recently entered maintenance mode. Sources reveal that the exact date and duration of the shutdown for this maintenance work cannot be determined at present. The cracking unit has an ethylene production capacity of 1 million tons per year, and a propylene production capacity of 535,000 tons per year.
