Recently, the copolymerization reactor of Hainan Refining & Chemical’s 300,000 tons per year polypropylene plant was put into operation, producing high-performance impact-resistant copolymerized polypropylene products, marking the successful full-scale commissioning of Sinopec’s 3G+ loop polypropylene technology. This is the first plant built by Sinopec using this technology, and it has the capability to produce high-performance polypropylene resin. The 3G+ ring-type pipe polypropylene technology was jointly developed by the Beijing Research Institute of Chemical Technology and the Engineering Construction Company (SEI). Building on third-generation (3G) ring-type pipe technology, it introduces a new type of fluidized-bed copolymerization reactor as well as a non-depressurized gas-locking technique for polymer powder, thereby significantly improving the performance of the impact-resistant copolymer products produced. Additionally, it extends the operation cycle of the copolymerization reactor. The direct preparation of polypropylene alloys in reactors can partially replace the blending modification process, enabling energy savings and reduced consumption in the processing of high-performance synthetic resins, while providing high-performance raw materials for downstream manufacturing industries. The rubber phase content of the products manufactured using this process exceeds 30%, which is far higher than that of 3G impact-resistant copolypropylene products; as a result, their impact resistance has been significantly improved. It is currently the product with the highest rubber phase content produced using the ring-type polypropylene process in the world.
