On November 4, Sinopec’s first proton exchange membrane hydrogen production demonstration plant was put into operation at Yanshan Petrochemical, marking Sinopec’s achievement in establishing a complete production process for proton exchange membrane hydrogen generation equipment – ranging from key materials and core components to system integration – thereby gaining experience in the development of independent technologies and equipment for hydrogen production via water electrolysis. Ling Yiqun, the deputy general manager of the group company, attended the commissioning ceremony. This demonstration station uses high-performance anode and cathode catalysts independently developed by the Petrochemical Science Research Institute, offering advantages in terms of production process and long-term stability. The proton exchange membrane electrolyzer, which serves as the core component, has a hydrogen production efficiency of over 85%, and key material components such as the cathode and anode catalysts as well as the bipolar plates are all domestically produced. In recent years, Yanshan Petrochemical has made effective progress in building a demonstration base for the hydrogen energy industry. Next, Yanshan Petrochemical will work closely with institutions such as the Research Institute of Petroleum and Chemical Engineering to complete the performance testing of proton exchange membrane electrolysis for hydrogen production as well as of the catalysts used in this process. It aims to continuously improve the relevant technical capabilities, serve as a model for others, and strive to promote the widespread adoption of this technology.
