Wanhua Chemical’s Fujian Industrial Park has resumed operations after completing shutdown for maintenance work

On July 29, Wanhua Chemical issued a announcement regarding the resumption of operations at its Fujian industrial park. According to the \"Announcement on Suspension of Operations for Maintenance at Wanhua Chemical Group Co., Ltd.’s Fujian Industrial Park\" issued by the company on May 23, 2025 (Announcement No.: Lin2025-32), the 800,000-ton/year MDI plant, the 360,000-ton/year TDI plant, the 400,000-ton/year PVC plant, as well as related supporting facilities in the Fujian Industrial Park, will cease operations for maintenance starting on June 5, 2025. To date, the shutdown for maintenance of the aforementioned equipment has been completed, and normal production has resumed. Additionally, the integrated production facilities of Bostik Chemical, a subsidiary of Wanhua Chemical, in Hungary – including those for MDI (400,000 tons per year) and TDI (250,000 tons per year) – were shut down for maintenance on July 23, with the maintenance period expected to last around 30 days. Due to a sudden electrical fire at Covestro’s Dormagen plant in Germany, Covestro has been hit by force majeure! As a result, the TDI plant with an annual production capacity of 300,000 tons declared force majeure, leading to rising prices for TDI in the domestic market. According to market sources, Shanghai Covestro raised the opening price of TDI in August to 18,500 yuan per ton (for barrels), with the price remaining at 19,100 yuan per ton for the whole month; supply is limited. In July, Shanghai BASF raised the price of TDI by another 4,000 yuan per ton, bringing it to 20,000 yuan per ton. Cangzhou Dahuahua raised the price again in July by 4,000 yuan per ton, to 20,000 yuan per ton, due to tight supply of goods. On July 22, Wanhua Chemical also raised its TDI prices in Southeast Asia by $500 per ton due to a severe shortage of TDI, and implemented limited supply. Both Wanhua Chemical and Cangzhou Dahuahua stated in their price adjustment announcements that the increase in prices was mainly due to supply shortages resulting from plant maintenance, as well as a surge in demand overseas. Customs data shows that in June 2025, China’s TDI exports reached 48,100 tons, with cumulative exports from January to June amounting to 267,300 tons – a year-on-year increase of 82.95%. It is worth mentioning that on July 27, the TDI plant of Mitsui Chemicals was shut down due to a chlorine leak. The capacity of this plant is currently 50,000 tons per year. Recent reports indicate that Mitsui Chemicals has sufficient TDI inventory, so there are no issues with shipments at present.
