What are the biodegradable plastics, and which one is the best?
At present, the biodegradable plastics developed in our country are mainly biopolymers such as polylactic acid (PLA), polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA), and carbon dioxide copolymers (PPC). Polylactic acid (PLA) is formed by the polymerization of lactide monomers derived from plant sugars, and it can be completely degraded into water and carbon dioxide under industrial composting conditions. Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are aliphatic copolyesters with various structures, synthesized by microorganisms through fermentation using different carbon sources. They can be used not only in packaging materials and agricultural films but also in a wide range of applications such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and animal feed.
