Recently, Lumas Technology announced that the new integrated plant owned by Fujian Zhongsha Petrochemical Co., Ltd. in Fujian Province, China, will utilize Lumas’ethylene and comonomer technologies. Leon de Bruyn, President and CEO of Lumaris, said, “We appreciate and congratulate Fujian Zhongsha Petrochemical Co., Ltd. on this important investment decision, and we look forward to helping them achieve more milestones.” ”He also noted that: “This project highlights Lumas’ unique ability to integrate solutions throughout the customer’s investment and operation cycle, thereby reducing costs and energy consumption, improving reliability and output, and optimizing plant operations.” ” It is reported that the projects under this cooperation mainly include a mixed-feed steam cracking unit with a production capacity of 1.8 million tons per year of ethylene and 1.02 million tons per year of propylene, a butene-1 unit with a capacity of 60,000 tons per year, as well as technical licenses and process packages for BTX product production. Lumas will also provide its proprietary heating furnace equipment and CDModules® for this project. Lumas Technology is a global leader in ethylene technology licensing, having granted licenses for over 200 ethylene plants worldwide, accounting for approximately 45% of the world’s total ethylene production capacity. Lumas has completed over 250 design projects for the construction, renovation, and expansion of ethylene facilities, and is a key provider of process technology and value-driven energy solutions worldwide. Project Overview: The Zhongsha Gulei Ethylene Project is the largest Sino-foreign joint venture project in Fujian Province to date. It was established through a partnership between Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), Fujian Energy and Petrochemical Group, and Zhangzhou Jiulongjiang Group. The construction includes a world-class ethylene production facility with an annual capacity of 1.5 million tons (with an expected maximum capacity of up to 1.8 million tons per year), as well as downstream processing facilities. The total investment amount is 44.8 billion RMB (approximately 6.4 billion USD). The main construction work for this project began on February 19, 2024, and it is expected to be completed by 2026. On March 28, 2024, the groundbreaking ceremony for the tank farm section of the Fujian Gulei 1.5 million tons per year ethylene and downstream processing project, which is under EPC general contracting by Sinopec Nanjing Engineering Co., Ltd., was held, marking the official start of on-site construction for this project. Main construction contents: Ethylene and downstream products – The ethylene production capacity is 1.5 million tons per year. Downstream, the plan includes production capacities of 100,000/1 million tons per year for ethylene oxide/ethylene glycol, 400,000 tons per year for HDPE, 600,000 tons per year for mLLDPE/HDPE, and 50,000 tons per year for hexene-1. Propylene and downstream products – Downstream of propylene, 400,000 tons per year of polypropylene (impact-resistant/random) and 550,000 tons per year of polypropylene (homopolymer/random) are planned to be produced. Additionally, downstream of propylene, plans are in place to build facilities for producing 250,000/150,000 tons per year of phenol propionate, 270,000 tons per year of bisphenol A, and 290,000 tons per year of polycarbonate. In addition, facilities for 910,000 tons per year of pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation (including styrene extraction), 220,000 tons per year of butadiene extraction, 56,000 tons per year of butene-1 production, and 570,000 tons per year of aromatic extraction have also been built.
