U.S. sanctions intensify! 8! Involving refineries and port operators!

On May 8, 2025, the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. Treasury Department unilaterally announced sanctions targeting Iran’s oil export chain – one refinery and three port terminal operators were included on the so-called sanctions list, accused of handling hundreds of millions of dollars worth of Iranian oil transactions. Meanwhile, in response to Iran’s \"shadow fleet,\" OFAC imposed sanctions on 3 port companies, a Singaporean subsidiary wholly owned by a Chinese company, and several oil tankers under their control, unilaterally accusing them of facilitating the transport of Iranian oil. It is worth noting that this is the third time the United States has imposed sanctions on Chinese \"teapot\" refineries, and it is the first time that companies operating ports and terminals at Dongying Port in Shandong Province have been included in such sanctions. Regarding such unilateral sanctions, Mao Ning, a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated clearly on March 21, 2025, that China has consistently opposed the arbitrary imposition of illegal unilateral sanctions and \"long-arm jurisdiction\". The United States should stop interfering with and undermining normal trade and economic cooperation between China and Iran.
