Wanhua Chemical: 360,000 tons per year TDI production facility in Fujian Industrial Park comes online

On August 19, Wanhua Chemical announced that the second phase of the TDI production facility (with an annual capacity of 360,000 tons) in its Fujian industrial park has been completed and put into operation recently, producing qualified products. At the same time, Wanhua Chemical also disclosed that the integrated production facilities of its subsidiary Bostik Hungary for MDI (400,000 tons per year) and TDI (250,000 tons per year), along with related supporting facilities, began to shut down for maintenance starting on July 23. To date, the shutdown for maintenance of the aforementioned TDI plant has been completed, and normal production has resumed ； Further announcements will be made once the MDI plant resumes operations. The announcement states that, in accordance with the annual maintenance plan, the 300,000 tons per year TDI production facility and related supporting facilities at the company’s Yantai industrial park will begin to shut down for maintenance starting on August 19, with the maintenance process expected to last around 40 days. Wanhua Chemical is the world’s largest supplier of MDI and TDI, and as of the end of 2024, it had an annual TDI production capacity of 1.11 million tons. With the commissioning of the second phase of the TDI plant at the Fujian Industrial Park, its total TDI production capacity has increased further.
Over twenty years ago, a **-level chemical industrial park rejected a TDI project with a total investment of $1 billion on the grounds that it was highly toxic, preventing the project from moving forward. Eventually, the project was adopted by a development zone in an economic hub, resulting in a park worth hundreds of billions of dollars centered around the TDI industry.
