The C4 isomerization catalyst developed in collaboration with China University of Petroleum has typical parameters as follows: space velocity of 2.0, conversion rate of 43%, selectivity of 85%, and single-pass lifetime of 40 days. Recently, I encountered a project with an extremely high content of butadiene; the properties of the raw material had changed, with the butadiene level reaching 6000 ppm, while all other conditions remained normal. During the current discussions with the owner, we have not previously implemented a similar installation, and the laboratory evaluation data is not very representative. We would like to seek advice from experts: under these conditions – with a pressure of less than 1 kg, an air velocity of 2.0, normal properties of the other raw materials, and a butadiene concentration of over 6000 ppm – what changes will occur in the technical parameters of the catalyst, and what are the approximate values?
One takes investments into account, while the other considers hydrogenation costs; it’s not cost-effective.
You can consider our catalyst, which can handle 5000 ppm of butadiene with a service life of over 90 days; for 6000 ppm, we can use some raw material to give it a try

Hydrogenation also involves costs, and the benefits of isomerization are not good to begin with.
Compared to the losses resulting from frequent regeneration due to the short service life of the catalyst, which leads to increased energy consumption (electricity, compressed air, coking), a shortened catalyst lifespan (by approximately 10–30%), and a decrease in product conversion rate (5–15%), the investment required for hydrogenation is still worthwhile.
