In 2025, the Thermal Power Department of Shanghai Petrochemical coordinated efforts to manage costs and reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. By using biomass fuel in place of petroleum coke for power generation, over 7,000 tons of biomass fuel were used throughout the year, resulting in a reduction of 10,600 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Since 2025, the department has been closely monitoring changes in the energy market. By carefully assessing the economic and environmental benefits, it has seized the right timing to purchase biomass fuel in batches to replace petroleum coke in power generation. This approach has not only ensured a stable supply of energy for production facilities but also led to savings in both fuel costs and carbon emission costs. In May 2021, Shanghai Petrochemical successfully implemented coupled combustion of biomass fuels, becoming the first petrochemical company in China to generate electricity through such combined combustion of biomass fuels. To date, a total of 25,600 tons of biomass fuels have been used in this process, resulting in a reduction of 38,900 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.

Previously, petroleum coke was used as a blending material; now it can be used to produce carbon fibers. Currently, biomass is being used as a blending material – I wonder what it is The reeds by the river?
