According to data from the Tianyancha app, Sinopec (600028) has obtained a new invention patent grant. The title of the patent is “A catalyst and a method for preparing 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol via one-step hydrogenation of dimethyl terephthalate”; the patent application number is CN202310117679.1, and the grant date is February 6, 2026. Patent abstract: The present invention provides a catalyst and a method for preparing 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol via one-step hydrogenation of dimethyl terephthalate. The preparation of the catalyst involves acid-treating carbon nanotubes and reacting them with Sn salts and citric acid to obtain a carrier; Rh salts are mixed with NH4ReO4 and coprecipitated along with reaction to yield a solution of metal nanoclusters, which is then added to the dispersion of the carrier followed by heat treatment to obtain the said catalyst. The aforementioned catalyst facilitates the one-step hydrogenation of dimethyl terephthalate to produce 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol. In the catalyst, the metal Re can act in synergy with Rh, enhancing Rh’s catalytic activity for the cyclohydrogenation of DMT. During the preparation process, the nitric acid-modified CNTs acquire hydrophilic surface functional groups such as –COOH, –OH, and –COR, which improves the dispersion of metals within the CNTs. This in turn enhances the adsorption capacity for the starting material, dimethyl terephthalate, resulting in a significant increase in the catalyst’s catalytic hydrogenation activity.
