Total Plastics Energy’s advanced recycling plant officially becomes operational

On March 19, Plastic Energy and TotalEnergies announced that the advanced plastic recycling plant established through their joint venture has officially begun operations. The plant (Total Plastics Energy Advanced Recycling, TEPEAR) is located within TotalEnergies’ zero-crude Granpuits complex near Paris. With a processing capacity of 15,000 tons per year, it utilizes Plastic Energy’s patented advanced recycling technology to transform hard-to-recycle plastics into recycled raw materials, which are then used to produce brand-new plastics. Earlier this year, following the successful production of the first batch of TACOIL™, the plant has now officially commenced operations. It produces recycled raw materials—namely recycled oil—from post-consumer plastic waste. This recycled oil is then processed at TotalEnergies’ petrochemical facilities to create products that meet stringent requirements, such as food-grade packaging, medical-grade materials, and other high-quality products. The integrated chain demonstrates how advanced recycling technologies can be scaled up to industrial levels through existing petrochemical supply chains.
