According to Sinochem New Network, recently BP and KOC announced that they would extend their enhanced technical cooperation agreement until March 2029. Under the agreement, BP will continue to provide technical support for improving oil recovery and field development at several key oil-producing assets in Kuwait. The scope of cooperation between the two parties includes the Greater Burghan oil field, one of the world’s largest oil-producing fields, as well as the South Kuwait and East Kuwait oil fields. BP will provide technical support in areas such as subsurface geology, reservoirs, and enhanced oil recovery, and will send technical experts to work alongside KOC’s team in order to strengthen local operational and reservoir management capabilities. The agreement was initially signed in 2016 for a period of ten years, aiming to support Kuwait Oil Company’s long-term production goals by applying international best practices in enhanced oil recovery. This delay reflects KOC’s continued focus on maximizing the recovery rates and maintaining production in its most strategically important oil fields through advanced reservoir management and technology transfer. BP stated that this partnership builds on its long-standing relationship with Kuwait in the upstream sector, and highlights the important role of international technical cooperation in enhancing the productivity and recovery rates of large oil fields. KOC will continue to prioritize the advancement of recovery enhancement technologies and capacity building in order to maintain the production capacity of its mature oil-producing assets and achieve its **production targets.
