The turbine model is 5CL-5. I would like to ask whether it is necessary to measure the shaft play first or the thrust bearing clearance first? Is it necessary to install the main thrust bearing when measuring shaft play?
To measure the total stroke, it is not necessary to use a thrust bearing

Total axial movement refers to the maximum displacement of the rotor in the axial direction within the stator. The purpose of installing thrust bearings or thrust pads is to prevent the rotor from moving back and forth axially. For example, take a ruler as an illustration: the range of 1–10 mm represents the axial movement that the rotor can make relative to the stator, and this is known as the total play. After installing the thrust bearing, the displacement range is between 3 and 4 mm. This will meet the requirements. After installing the thrust bearing, if the displacement range is too close to the 1mm mark or the 10mm mark, then in the event that the thrust pads wear out or the clearance of the thrust bearing increases, the rotor is likely to come into contact with the stator, resulting in friction and damage to the equipment. The purpose is to ensure that the axial clearance remains within the allowable range under maximum load, which is what is commonly referred to as the K value
