However, with some pump models, once the oil level in the oil sight glass exceeds 1/2 or even falls below 1/2, the oil starts to flow out from the oil retaining ring in the bearing compartment. Could anyone tell me what the reason for this is? :
The oil pump might be broken or clogged, the pipes could be blocked, or there might be too much copper sludge.
We have encountered this situation before, but it was with a magnetic pump. There is a notch on the bearing cover of the coupling; oil leakage occurs as soon as the oil level rises just a little above the bottom of the sight glass. Later, when I consulted the manufacturer, they said that this is how it’s designed – their pumps do not require much oil for lubrication. In fact, operating with a low oil level throughout did not result in issues such as bearing overheating or seizure. You can first disassemble the pump to check and rule out any damage-related issues; if the problem persists, consult the manufacturer.
The oil window is set too high; it’s fine to add less oil – we’ve encountered that situation as well.
It’s possible that the oil sight gauge is not positioned correctly
The oil window position is set too high. For rolling bearings, the lowest line of the ball centers represents the normal oil level; the lower one-third of the balls indicates a low oil level, while the upper two-thirds above the line of the ball centers signifies a high oil level. In the case of lubrication systems using oil rings for spindles, these oil rings are generally 1.5 to 2 times larger in diameter than the spindle they are meant to lubricate. The oil level in the oil chamber should be at a certain distance from the spindle; this distance is generally half the diameter of the spindle, or about 5 mm below the bearing surface at the highest oil level.
The oil filling cup is airtight, resulting in high pressure inside the lubricant tank
