During the operation of the coking rich gas compressor, a large amount of hydrogen is present in the inlet stream; why does this cause surging in the compressor? What are the theoretical reasons for surging?
Mainly, the inlet flow rate is low, and the inlet pressure is low! This causes the airflow to move back and forth within the engine, resulting in pulsed airflow! It causes the machine to vibrate, damaging its operational performance!
This issue depends on whether it is congenital or acquired; if it is congenital, the quality of installation can be checked. If it is acquired, it may be due to excessively high outlet pressure control set at the process specification value. Surge usually results from excessive outlet pressure, but too low inlet pressure can also cause surge, although the sound is different.

It is also related to the operating conditions of your system and the medium in use; is there any fluctuation in the inlet flow rate or pressure?
