In the refrigeration system of industrial chillers, valves serve primarily to control the flow and direction of the refrigerant. They are also used frequently in everyday operation; valves are needed whenever the industrial chiller needs to be shut down or started up. Due to its high frequency of daily use, extra care is required during installation to ensure its proper functioning and to avoid affecting the stable operation of the industrial chiller. Next, we will introduce to you the installation steps and precautions for valves in industrial chiller cooling systems. 1. Valves should be installed in locations that are easy to disassemble and maintain. When installing various valves, care must be taken to ensure the correct direction of flow of the refrigerant; they must not be installed in the wrong direction. 2. When installing flanged valves on industrial chillers, gaskets must be made of high-pressure asbestos board for both the flange and the valve’s flange; the thickness of this high-pressure asbestos board should be determined based on the depth of the flange grooves on the valve. When the valves are large and the grooves are deep, thicker asbestos sheets should be used to prevent gaps from forming at the uneven joints between them, which could lead to poor sealing. When assembling flanged valves, it is essential to ensure that all bolts are under even stress; otherwise, the uneven interfaces may be pressed out of alignment. 3. When installing the stop valve, the fluid should flow from the bottom of the valve to the top. When installed in horizontal pipelines, the valve stem should point vertically upward or at an angle; it is prohibited for the stem to point downward. If the valve location is difficult to access or is at a high height, the valve stem can be installed horizontally for easier operation. 4. When installing a check valve on an industrial chiller, ensure that the valve core can open automatically. For lift-type check valves, it is necessary to ensure that the center line of the valve core is perpendicular to the horizontal plane. For swing check valves, it is necessary to ensure the rotation of the valve disc, and the valve disc must be installed horizontally. 5. The safety valve should be installed directly on the stop valve at the equipment outlet, and the arrow on the valve body should be in the same direction as the flow of the fluid. 6. The solenoid valve must be installed horizontally at the outlet of the equipment, and it must be installed in the position specified in the drawings. If the solenoid valve is installed in front of the throttle valve, maintain a distance of at least 300 mm between them. 7. The thermal expansion valve in industrial chillers must also be installed horizontally; attention should be paid to the inlet and outlet connections of the valve, with a filter usually present at the inlet side of the valve. For good control of a thermal expansion valve, the position of the bulb is very important. The temperature sensor should be firmly fixed to the clean air intake pipe, ensuring good contact between the sensor and the pipe. The external balance tube of the external balance thermal expansion valve should be installed below the location where the temperature sensor bulb is tied to the return pipe, at a distance of 150–200 mm from that location. The temperature sensor bulb should be tied to the horizontal section of the pipe, while the external balance tube should extend out from the top of the horizontal section of the return pipe.
