The vibration level of the fifth stage of a turbine-type five-stage air compressor has suddenly increased, and the increase is quite rapid. There are no changes in other components such as the inlet guide vanes; both the fourth and fifth stages are mounted on the same shaft. The vibration level of the fourth stage remains unchanged, while only the vibration level of the fifth stage is high. What could be the reason? Experts, please provide some guidance
Once this problem arises, the only thing that can be done is to maintain the status quo. It’s only possible to roughly determine whether there might be water entering the cylinder, or a leak in some cooler. Another thing is to verify the credibility of the vibration. Check through the bearing oil supply sight glass to see if everything is normal. All that’s left is to shut down the machine for inspection and disassembly. First, the shaft bearing shells are inspected to check the condition of the bearings, followed by a disassembly inspection of the rotor, as the impeller may be damaged. Imbalance in dynamic balance caused by factors such as scale accumulation on the impeller. For reference.
