Is the use of floating seals widespread in the petrochemical industry, and are they effective?

I’ve just started to learn about floating seals. From what I’ve found, they seem to be used quite often in coal mines, and their function is merely to seal the oil chamber from the atmosphere. However, according to Baidu’s information, turbines, generators, powder exhaust pumps, supply fans, exhaust fans, feed water pumps, blowers, compressors, and turbomachines can all be used. So the question is, is this thing actually useful, and in what types of working conditions is it suitable? Is it in use in the petrochemical industry?
