Two centrifugal pumps are connected in parallel, with one in operation and one as a backup. In through the same main pipe, out through the same main pipe. Turn on one of them, and the pressure remains stable. Turn on another one; there is pressure fluctuation. Note: Performance tests were conducted before leaving the factory, and neither pump showed any fluctuations. Please take the time to analyze what causes these pressure fluctuations. It is possible to check whether the inlet filter of the pump is clogged.
What medium? Parameters of the pump? What are the fluctuations in inlet pressure, outlet pressure, and motor current?
This possibility is quite high; we encountered a similar situation right at the start of the project here!
Is the piping layout the same? Is there any flow competition?
The supply pipes are insufficient in quantity, causing interference among them
Different gaps in the pump inlet ring can result in varying pump performance; fluctuations in back pressure can cause variations in the pump outlet pressure. It is recommended to disassemble pumps with significant fluctuations and measure the gap of the inlet ring
There is a phenomenon of competing for volume; check if there are any issues with the pipeline design
Based on the poster’s description, I support the idea of using two pumps to increase the flow rate. To determine whether there is competition for flow at the inlet, one can compare the sum of the cross-sectional areas of the inlets of the two pumps with the cross-sectional area of the main pipe.
