I have a small turbine oil pump installed, with a Woodward mechanical governor model TG17. Recently, I’ve encountered some puzzling issues: under normal conditions, the speed of the small turbine is set at 2000 rpm by the governor. When there are fluctuations in steam supply, the speed drops to 1500 rpm, yet the governor does not react; at the same time, the oil pressure also decreases slightly. Sometimes, when steam fluctuations cause the speed to rise to 2300 rpm, the governor still does not respond. The speed of the governor is set at 2000; why can’t it be adjusted manually?

1. The governor oil is dirty; drain the dirty oil, flush the governor, and refill it with clean oil. 2. The travel distance of the output shaft coupling mechanism is incorrect; the recommended angular travel from no load to full load is 2/3 of the governor’s total travel distance. 3 Check the speed range of the governor. 4 The governor is turning in the wrong direction; check the drive shaft connecting the turbine to the governor. If necessary, reverse the pump’s components to change its direction of rotation. Key 5 is not installed correctly or not installed at all, and the drive shaft is not connected. Check the transmission shaft installation; 6 transmission shaft pins are broken
Check whether the spring or pendulum at the governor is stuck, and whether the spring’s elasticity has been lost
The issue with the adjustment range of the travel distance – moreover, even within the specified range the minimum values do not meet the required standards, which results in inaccurate values for that range or low readings; the actual range is much larger than the measured range. In short, the range values are too small
Check if the wrong throttle spool still rotates; it’s likely blocked by dirt
