Under what circumstances is an anti-vortex plate installed at the container outlet?
HGT 20583-2011, the Code for Structural Design of Steel Chemical Vessels, provides information on vortex suppressors. 13.2.1 To prevent gas from being entrained in the liquid discharged from the vessel, vortex suppressors should be installed at the liquid discharge outlet of the vessel under the following operating conditions. 1 A pipe directly connected to the inlet of the pump. 2 When the liquid medium contains particles or suspended solids. 3 When liquid phase stratification is occurring or the liquid surface must not be disturbed. 13.2.2 The structure and dimensions of the vortex shield are shown in Figure 13.2.2 and Table 13.2.2.
The main purpose of the vortex prevention baffle is to prevent entrained gas. It must be installed in areas where gases are not allowed.
