Why are the dome plates and flaps of spherical vessels not allowed to be joined?
The last edit to this post was made by wanlirn on 2017-5-11 at 08:43. Think about it: a spherical tank is made up of many spherical shell plates. So, is each individual spherical shell plate also assembled together? What does that result in?
Based on years of experience in spherical tank construction, the spherical shell plates are always ordered in fixed lengths and do not require welding together. From the perspective of safe use, spherical tanks should minimize the number of welds in order to reduce potential quality risks. Therefore, it is practical for the standard to be stipulated in this way.
Both the dome plates and lobes are cut and pressed based on the actual plate width, and the plates used for spherical tanks can be customized. The standards specify that shell plates must not be joined; if they are pressed together according to their width, then what’s the need for joining them?
It is not simply a matter of cutting based on the plate width; there are requirements regarding the width of the plate. Additionally, in my opinion, the presence of numerous openings at the top, combined with the thick walls of the plate housing and the openings at the top poles, creates many constraints in terms of hole positioning and heat treatment. Sorry about that.
