Structural issues of low-temperature stainless steel end plates

Why is this? For smaller diameters, a pipe cap can be used as well. But for larger diameters, how thick would such a flat cover have to be? Why not use standard end caps? It’s such a waste of resources!
With an inner diameter of 640 mm, a flat cover can only be used due to internal structural reasons.
Well, that’s the only option then. But consider using forgings for the flat cover.
