Today I saw the drawings; it’s a titanium composite tube sheet, with a titanium ring attached around the composite layer to serve as a seal. Is such a structure common? Will welding affect the quality of the composite layer?

Performing additional layer welding after the titanium-steel composite plate has been manufactured is not a good approach, as it can lead to poor adhesion. If the customer insists on using this manufacturing process, they need to sign a document confirming this decision. If the titanium coating is relatively thick, welding might help a bit, but it cannot be guaranteed that no new misalignments will occur. At that time, a composite board with a thicker laminate should have been chosen, and the sealing surface should have been machined.

It’s really amazing. Currently, our TA composite tube sheets have a composite layer only 3 mm thick, and we also want to use this structure; I think the risks are too high. If delamination occurs due to welding, and by then all the heat exchange tubes have already been manufactured, that would be a serious problem. So, I still think that if there is a step partition on the tube sheet composite layer, it is to save material ; Or, if the composite layer is relatively thick and the flatness of the tube sheet is poor, this structure can be considered; it is not recommended to use this structure in other cases.
