A project currently being worked on by our unit involves two small pressure vessel devices: a crude oil gas separator and a natural gas separator. The operating pressure for these devices is 0.2 MPa, while the design pressure is 0.6 MPa. Their volume is very small, being less than 1.2 m3 each. Should the hydrostatic test pressure be set at 1.5 times the design pressure, That is, 0.9 MPa, instead of 1.25 times the design pressure, which would be 0.75 MPa? Since 1.5 times the design pressure is used for the hydrostatic testing of the entire system, wouldn’t it be more reasonable to use the same test pressure for these devices as well before conducting the overall system hydrostatic test?
Increase the design pressure of the container to 0.72 MPa; 0.72 × 1.25 = 0.9. The equipment will not be large, and there won’t be much waste of material

Thank you all for your guidance. I will still increase the pressure for the hydrostatic test to 0.9 MPa, and recheck the wall thickness of the cylinder.
Where it is required to conduct pressure testing on the equipment together with the piping system, the hydrostatic test pressure shall be taken as that of the piping system. Many projects have such requirements: when performing strength calculations, the test pressure used is set to that of the pipeline, and it is sufficient to ensure compliance by using the test pressure of the piping system.
