ASME stainless steel vertical gas storage tank, with a carbon steel skirt. Is a transition section needed in the middle? Which standard does it come from?
This post was last edited by zhangjuhua on 2019-7-12 at 15:15. ASME is unclear. According to the definition in GB/NBT47041-2014, page 18, high and low temperature CRMO steel is required; similar requirements also apply when high standards are imposed on stainless steel
Domestic standards require the presence of a transition section, and there are also specifications regarding its length. ASME is not clear on this, but transition zones are generally provided to avoid welding dissimilar steels.
In my personal understanding, the skirt transition section is considered as part of the base material.
