Is it better to have the discharge outlet of a horizontal storage tank at the top or at the bottom?
It depends on the specific situation. There aren’t many designs; most of them are just outputs.
Either one is fine; it depends on the specific situation. For some media (such as nitric acid), holes cannot be made at the bottom, so they can only be made at the top. If installing below, pay attention to whether there are requirements for anti-vortex and anti-bottom-fouling features, as well as whether the saddle height is appropriate.
Whether it’s top-entry or bottom-entry, it depends on your medium and design requirements. But in the end, drainage bleed-off is required in all cases
The bottom option is the best; I specialize in horizontal tanks
Anyway, all the systems I’ve encountered use discharge from below; it’s difficult to design a system with discharge from above, unless inert gas is used for pressing and transporting the material, but that’s not convenient!
Those that are highly hazardous and highly corrosive can be discharged from the top, while others can be discharged from the bottom
Consider the medium (any special requirements, crystallization, impurities, etc.), as well as the equipment (installation location, space, head pressure requirements, etc.); for discharge from above, options such as pumping, pressing (since the storage tank is a pressure vessel), or submersible pumps need to be taken into account
