As shown in the figure: Refer to page P126 of NB/T 47015-2011, in table “B.1 Common groove forms and dimensions for butt joints of stainless steel composite steel”, the groove diagram marked “Welding can only be carried out on one side” is shown. In this case, the clad layer is on the inside; the groove should be of the type suitable for TIG welding. The key aspects are the welding sequence and the choice of welding materials. According to the groove dimensions, welding should first be done on the clad layer, followed by the transition layer, and finally the surface layer. Well, here’s the question: there should be no objection to using stainless steel welding wire for the cladding layer. The questions are: (1) Should a transition layer welding wire or electrode be used for the transition layer? (2) Should base metal welding electrodes be used after the transition layer is welded? Will cracks occur when carbon steel welding materials are used to weld on stainless steel? (3) Is the base layer continued to be welded using the transition layer welding material after the transition layer welding is completed? I hope the seniors can answer actively. Thank you!
1. TIG welding is used for root pass; single-sided welding results in double-sided formation. If the composite layer is S30408, then A102 electrode should be used for welding the composite layer; 2. Use A302 between the composite layer and the base layer ; 3. If the base layer is 20R, use J427; if it is Q345R, use J507. 4. Automatic welding can be used for the base layer. 5. Carbon steel welding materials will not cause cracks in stainless steel.
