What are the defining standards or regulations? By volume or other parameters?
For cylinders like this, it’s best to check what the instructions specify; there should be a basis for it.
First of all, I’m not sure if by low-temperature storage tank you mean a fixed vacuum-insulated cryogenic pressure vessel Or a mobile cryogenic storage tank? 1. Welding insulated gas cylinders in low-temperature insulated containers: GB/T24159-2009 specifies a volume range of 10–450 liters and an operating pressure of 0.2–3.5 Mpa. However, due to the obsolescence of this standard, many enterprise standards now allow volumes of up to 1000 liters; the Standards Committee does not approve volumes exceeding 1000 liters. 2. For low-temperature insulated cylinders used for automotive liquefied natural gas, the specified capacity ranges from 150 to 450 liters, with an operating pressure of 0.8–3.5 Mpa; however, many companies now use cylinder capacities of up to 1350 liters according to their own standards. Just like those mounted on the back of large trucks these days, in the past two containers with a capacity of 450L each were used, connected by upper and lower piping frameworks; whereas now just one container with a capacity of 1350L is sufficient. 3. The low-temperature storage tanks shall comply with GB/T150-2011 and GB/T18442-2019, with GB/T18442.1 specifying that the geometric volume must be at least 1 cubic meter.
From the perspective of design and manufacturing, the differences mainly lie in the applicable regulatory standards: low-temperature gas cylinders are governed by the \"Regulations on Safety Inspection of Gas Cylinders,\" while low-temperature storage tanks are regulated by the \"Regulations on Safety Inspection of Fixed Pressure Vessels.\" The manufacturing of gas cylinders is carried out in accordance with GB/T24159-2009, whereas low-temperature storage tanks are manufactured in compliance with GB/T18442-2019. From a practical standpoint, low-temperature gas cylinders are certainly more convenient, as they can be moved; once the gas inside is used up, they can be taken back to the filling station for refilling. Low-temperature storage tanks are fixed pressure vessels that cannot be moved; they can only be filled on-site using low-temperature tank trucks. However, the capacity of gas cylinders is limited; when a large amount of gas is required, using gas cylinders necessitates repeated filling processes. In contrast, storage tanks can be customized to meet specific capacity needs, which is relatively more convenient.
