Manhole cover S30408 lined with S22053

Help~~~ For the manhole of S22053, the flange cover purchased is made of S30408 lined with S22053. I want to ask regarding welding processes: is it necessary to use the method of welding stainless steel with another layer of stainless steel? The welding engineer said that this method is essential for plug welding, but another experienced worker claimed that it’s not necessary and that using the standard stainless steel fillet welding method is sufficient. So, is there anyone who can provide a definitive answer? :(
This is related to the welding process you use; if plug welding is employed, then this assessment is certainly necessary. If you only weld around the edges and the container is not under negative pressure, with no plug welding used, then it’s not required.
It would be better to use a S30408 composite, or even a Q245 or Q345 composite – it offers better strength without costing more money. As long as it’s not under negative pressure, and in a positive pressure environment, there will be no peeling or damage. The purpose of compounding is mainly for corrosion protection; as long as leaks are prevented and corrosion does not occur, then there should be no problems.
