Dear everyone: The existing 98% concentrated sulfuric acid storage tanks need to be replaced. Does the new storage tank require design work by a specialized chemical engineering firm, to be manufactured thereafter by a company qualified to handle pressure vessels? The volume is approximately 30 cubic meters; carbon steel is planned to be used, with a bottom plate thickness of 12 mm, a cylinder wall thickness of 10 mm, and a top plate thickness of 10 mm. There is a DN65 discharge port at the bottom, along with a level gauge equipped with magnetic flip switches (requiring a DN20 interface for the level gauge); the feed inlet at the top is DN25.
If the equipment remains the same as before, the original drawings can be used to find a qualified manufacturer for production; if it has changed, redesign is required.
The original design firm for the storage tank drawings has been acquired and its name has changed; does this mean it is necessary to find a new design firm with chemical engineering qualifications to carry out the design, and then find a qualified manufacturer to produce the tank? Thank you!
From your description, it seems to be a storage tank at normal pressure. Why hire a company with qualifications for handling pressure vessels? One should look for a company with the ability to manage projects and ensure quality; such companies generally have the necessary qualifications for working with pressure vessels, as well as design qualifications
I would like to ask, for sulfuric acid tanks and alkali solution tanks, which standards are used in their design? Are there any industry atlases or something like that?
According to HG/T20660-2017, sulfuric acid is classified as a highly hazardous medium; if a flat-bottom design is used, there are no applicable design specifications. Due to the small volume, it is recommended to use vertical or horizontal tanks with upper and lower end caps; it is best to use plates designed specifically for pressure vessels.
It doesn’t matter; no design qualifications nor manufacturing qualifications are required.
