Are non-destructive testing required for the girth and longitudinal seams of tower skirt rings, and where are the relevant standard specifications?
There are no standard specifications; it shall comply with the technical requirements in the drawings.
Section 8.6.4 of SH 3098 specifies the various situations in which MT or PT testing is required for the weld joints between the skirt and the shell
The skirt should be considered a non-compressive element; the circumferential and longitudinal welds on the skirt itself should not fall into categories A, B, C, D, or E. According to GB150, no requirements are specified for such welds, so it is likely that no non-destructive testing is necessary. However, the weld between the skirt and the head is classified as an E-class weld, and MT or PT inspection is required.

For critical equipment where wind loads or seismic loads play a major role in determining the wall thickness, non-destructive testing can be increased. Clause 8.6.7 of SH/T3098-2011 stipulates that, when necessary, the longitudinal and circumferential welds of the skirt cylinder shall be subject to localized radiographic testing.
There is no such rule; it is still necessary to perform RT on Class AB welds in skirt seats
