When the head is formed by welding two or three steel plates that are symmetrical left and right together, the distance between the welds and the center line of the head should be less than 1/4 of the nominal diameter. When the head is fabricated by joining lobes and a top disc, the weld directions are limited to radial and circumferential directions only. The minimum distance between welds shall be not less than 3 times the nominal thickness δn of the head, and not less than 100 mm. The lobes and the top disc should be manufactured as a single piece and must not be joined together. Will the first sentence still be executed? Why? Well, could you explain the reason for the cancellation? Why cancel? The stress distribution in the transition zone of the elliptical head is quite high compared to other areas, and the material thickness reduction in that region is the most significant. Isn’t it inappropriate to place the head seams in this area? I think this one is quite reasonable and shouldn’t be canceled. Perhaps considering that 100% non-destructive testing of the welds has been required, and that the minimum thickness of the head was taken into account during design, the head already meets the strength requirements; in such a case, using more material for the seam placed in the middle is necessary.
