Compressed air, as the second most important source of energy, is used in various industries. It’s only after using air compressors for so long that one realizes there are so many different types of them. What other types exist besides those mentioned below? There are many types of air compressors. 1. Based on their working principle, they can be divided into three categories: positive-displacement type, dynamic type (velocity type or turbine type). Positive displacement air compressors: Positive displacement compressors are those that increase gas pressure by varying the size of the compression volume, or by confining a certain amount of continuous airflow within a closed space to raise the pressure. This is the most direct method of gas compression. Imagine a gas in a certain space; if the volume of that space is reduced, the gas will inevitably be compressed, and its pressure will rise, thereby achieving the goal of compressing the gas. Dynamic air compressors: Dynamic compressors are a type of fluid machine in which pressure increase occurs simultaneously with the flow of gas. Based on the lubrication method, they can be divided into oil-free air compressors and air compressors lubricated with oil. 3. Based on performance, they can be classified into air compressors with low noise, variable frequency capability, explosion protection, etc. 4. By application, they can be classified as: refrigerator compressors, air-conditioning compressors, refrigeration compressors, compressors for oil fields, those used in natural gas filling stations, compressors for rock drilling machines, pneumatic tools, compressors for vehicle braking, those used for opening and closing doors and windows, compressors for textile machinery, compressors for inflating tires, compressors for plastic machinery, mining compressors, marine compressors, medical compressors, and those used for sandblasting and painting. 5. By type, they can be divided into: fixed, mobile, and enclosed types. Specific principles of air compressors (1) Positive-displacement compressors – compressors that increase gas pressure by directly changing the volume of the gas. (2) Piston compressor – It is a positive-displacement compressor whose compressing element is a piston that moves back and forth within the cylinder. (3) Rotary compressor – It is a positive-displacement compressor, with compression being achieved through the forced movement of rotating elements. (4) Sliding-vane compressor – it is a rotary variable-displacement compressor, in which the axial vanes slide radially on a rotor that is eccentric with respect to the cylindrical cylinder. The air trapped between the slides is compressed and then discharged. (5) Liquid-piston compressor – it is a rotary positive-displacement compressor in which water or other liquids are used as pistons to compress gas, which is then discharged. (6) Roots twin-rotor compressor – It belongs to the category of rotary positive-displacement compressors, in which two Roots rotors mesh with each other to trap gas and convey it from the inlet to the outlet. There is no internal compression. (7) Screw compressor – It is a rotary positive-displacement compressor in which two rotors equipped with helical gears mesh with each other, causing the volume at the point where the rotors meet to decrease, thereby compressing and discharging the gas. The screw compression components in screw air compressors are manufactured using state-of-the-art CNC grinding machines, along with online laser technology, to ensure extremely precise manufacturing tolerances. Its reliability and performance ensure that the operating costs of the compressor remain extremely low throughout its service life. (8) Dynamic compressor — it is a rotary continuous-flow compressor in which high-speed rotating blades accelerate the gas passing through it, thereby converting kinetic energy into pressure. This transformation occurs partly on the rotating blades and partly on the fixed diffuser or recirculator vanes. (9) Centrifugal compressor – a type of speed compressor in which one or more rotating impellers (with blades usually on the sides) are used to accelerate the gas. The main airflow is radial. (10) Axial flow compressor – a type of speed compressor in which the gas is accelerated by a rotor equipped with blades. The main airflow is axial. (11) Mixed-flow compressor – also belongs to the speed-type compressors. The shape of its rotor combines some features of both centrifugal and axial flow types. (12) Jet compressor – uses a high-speed gas or steam jet to carry away the gas drawn in, and then converts the velocity of the mixed gas into pressure in a diffuser. (13) Permanent-magnet variable-frequency compressor —— Since variable-frequency screw air compressors take advantage of the stepless speed control capability of inverters, they can start smoothly through a controller or the PID regulator built into the inverter ; It is suitable for applications with large fluctuations in gas consumption, and can provide rapid adjustment and response. (14) Monopolar compression screw air compressor – The compressor head is a screw air compressor consisting of a pair of male and female rotors. This model is a widely used screw air compressor. (15) Bipolar compression screw air compressor – The compressor head consists of two pairs of male and female rotors; after being compressed in the first stage, the gas enters the second compression stage. It features a high compression ratio, and its power consumption is one level lower than that of air compressors with single-stage compression. (16) Bipolar permanent magnet variable-frequency air compressor – a new type of energy-saving product developed since 2014, combining permanent magnet variable-frequency technology with bipolar compression technology to achieve high energy-saving efficiency.
