For the WN butt joint of the pipe flanges specified in the welding procedure card, the flanges are trimmed in accordance with the drawing standards. Now, I have some doubts regarding the order form to be sent to the flaw detection department: should we specify the thickness δ1 of the flanges without edge trimming, as well as the thickness of the welded joints? Should the base material thickness in the welding procedure card reflect this δ1? I would like to ask how other pressure vessel manufacturers proceed.

After flange trimming, the thickness at the thinnest part is generally equal to that of the connected pipes; the thickness chosen for radiographic inspection is the thickness of the weld area. In the resulting images, half of them show no defects at all, and the inspector can immediately tell that trimming was carried out

Currently, there are two approaches in our flaw detection room: taking samples based on the thickness of thick plates, or based on the thickness of thin plates. Are there any standard specific regulations for this?
Is this how your factory operates? Could you please explain in detail the procedures regarding welding process cards, assignment orders, and radiography?
The standard flange has its edges trimmed; it is used for non-standard applications. Has it been calculated?
