I have never done welding before, but the welding specifications as well as the manufacturer’s instructions for the electrodes state that the electrodes need to be dried before use. But from what I’ve observed, aside from large state-owned enterprises that properly comply with these regulations, ordinary private enterprises don’t bother with them at all. Not to mention drying it, even if it gets wet, as long as it can be welded, just weld directly on it. I would like to ask welders who have experience in welding: what impact does it really have on the weld seam whether the area is fully heated during welding? Does it make welding more difficult if the area gets damp, or does it make no difference? If the welding process is the same in all cases, will there still be quality issues such as pores in the weld seam after welding?

This is the pipeline welding site; the boss has taken out the wet electrodes and is drying them! The pipes are operated under slightly positive pressure; perhaps for this reason the owner didn’t even bother to prepare a dryer. The welding rods were taken straight from their packaging boxes and used as-is, and when they got wet they were simply dried in the sun. Not drying the electrodes has little impact on the welding quality; however, it does affect the structure of the weld. Things like the purity level mentioned earlier are something that these welders don’t pay attention to. If you ask whether welding with wet electrodes has any effect, it’s similar to asking whether washing vegetables before cooking makes a difference
