There is a small heat exchanger with a diameter of DN250; its tube side contains HCL. The WN 250-40FM standard per HG/T20592 is used as the equipment flange. The flange is made of stainless steel forgings, and its design pressure is 2.1 MPa. Is it necessary to perform calculations for this flange?
Thank you for the answer. I did the calculations; the intensity isn’t sufficient. It hasn’t been calculated for the takeover flange, but it’s not necessary to calculate it for the equipment flange – is that because standard components are being used?
Choosing according to the standards is fine; however, the standard flange calculations may not necessarily be successful.
If the flange is subjected only to hydrostatic pressure and the gasket clamping force, this calculation can be omitted; generally speaking, the heat exchanger can be selected directly.
It’s best to perform calculations; according to GB150, many nozzle flanges do not meet the requirements. Moreover, the fasteners and gaskets you select as equipment flanges also have an impact on the flange calculations.
Standard flanges, when calculated based on certain criteria, can also be defective. Standard parts that meet the required temperature and pressure specifications; they can be used without any problems
Without considering the flanges, it is impossible to perform calculations for the tube sheet; even when standard vessel flanges are selected, calculations must still be carried out.
It’s fine if it doesn’t fall into that category, but if it does, it’s better to do the calculation. Whether it’s regulation or safety, I feel at ease. It just requires slight adjustments to the thickness and neck shape
