When designing a steel external pressure short cylinder, it was found that the critical pressure calculated using Q245R steel is 10% lower than the required value for the design. Can Q345R steel, which has a yield strength 35% higher than that of Q245R, be used instead to meet the design requirements? Why?
Sure! Only with the designer’s consent can a higher value be used in place of a lower one!
In terms of strength, it is generally acceptable to use a higher grade in place of a lower one, but the compatibility of the materials still needs to be further verified.
