Hello everyone, may I ask if it is possible to use bars that have been machined to create pipe fittings? We’ve come across a special specification; it’s a bit difficult to find forgings that meet it. We plan to machine one using bar stock instead.
We have also processed shorter ones, especially those with thick walls
According to GB/T 150.2-2011, clauses 5.1.8 and 5.2.9, round steel can be used for manufacturing. Of course, if the material is quite tough, it is still recommended to use forging rods for processing.
For the compressed components, forgings should still be used, and it is necessary to ensure that the chemical composition and mechanical properties of the bars meet the required standards.
For those with special requirements, processing with bars may not be a viable option. Due to the varying physical and chemical properties and structures of bars, it is difficult to determine which ones meet the requirements for forgings. It is recommended to follow the design requirements and contact the forging factory to have it processed as specified. It must be processed according to the design requirements. Otherwise, it’ll be difficult to explain if anything goes wrong. For your reference.
