Regarding the issue of what the proportion should be for non-destructive testing of the welds between the quick-opening manhole domed heads and flanges – 20% or 100% – is there any basis for this?
The proportion of non-destructive testing for the joints between the manhole dome head and the flanges is generally 100%. This is because these welds typically bear significant pressure or fluid loads, and leaks or damage to them can have a very serious impact on safety. Therefore, after risk assessments such as the banker’s algorithm, the proportion of non-destructive testing is usually set at 100%. However, in special circumstances such as limited budgets or other constraints, partial non-destructive testing may be chosen, in which case the proportion of welds inspected could be around 20%. However, such a situation requires professional evaluation and consideration before a decision can be made. .
It belongs to Class A welds and is subject to the same requirements as the entire equipment
The butt joint between the head and the long-neck flange is a Class B weld, and the proportion of non-destructive testing required is the same as that specified for the shell, unless the design drawings specify otherwise.
