First, let’s talk about the purpose of the voltage withstand test. The pressure test is conducted to ultimately evaluate the overall strength and reliability of pressure vessels; it assesses, at pressures higher than the design pressure, the manufacturing quality of the vessel, the strength and stiffness of various pressure-bearing components, as well as the sealing performance of weld joints and connection surfaces. For large containers manufactured on-site, it also serves to check the basic settlement. At the same time, it is also a verification of the structural design. Therefore, a successful pressure test only proves the overall strength and reliability of the pressure vessel; it cannot detect whether there are any minor leaks in the vessel. The leakage test depends on the properties of the medium inside the container and the requirements for its safe use. Clear regulations and standards have been established regarding the requirements for media. For example, for containers whose medium is classified as extremely or highly hazardous, a leakage test is required after the pressure resistance test is passed. The inspection can only be passed after the leak test is successful. Therefore, after passing the voltage test, a leakage test must be conducted as required. The withstand voltage test passes, but there is still a possibility that the leakage test will fail.
There is no necessary connection between the two, but many people think they are the same.
