Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is commonly known as Teflon®; it is also famous for its non-stick coating used in cooking utensils. PTFE has become a mainstream material in many fields of the modern world. It is a highly common and widely used fluoropolymer. PTFE is considered a unique fluoropolymer because it is fully fluorinated, containing only fluorine and carbon atoms. PTFE is a homopolymer of tetrafluoroethylene (TFE), formed by the polymerization of tetrafluoroethylene monomers through free-radical reactions. Properties and characteristics of polytetrafluoroethylene: The tightly packed structure and fully bonded carbon chains of PTFE endow this polymer with a variety of excellent properties, making it one of the most widely used polymers today. Polytetrafluoroethylene does not react even with small molecules such as water or other polytetrafluoroethylene chains, which means that it hardly adheres to anything. These features provide excellent lubricity for specific applications. PTFE products and catheter components: Polytetrafluoroethylene can be used to manufacture a variety of products, and its chemical and mechanical properties enable these products to be utilized in many different applications. Polytetrafluoroethylene can be made into molded parts ; Used as flexible pipe fittings, electrical insulators, bearings, valve bodies, gears ; and extruded into tubes. PTFE can be processed into precision parts with extremely tight tolerances, or it can be made into sheets or films, and it can also undergo thermal shrinkage. The tight bonding properties of polytetrafluoroethylene are reflected in its excellent wear resistance and superior lubricity.
