This is the first robot of its kind used for inspecting tank bottoms in this industry, marking a significant step forward in making tank inspections more intelligent and efficient in China’s petrochemical sector. The robot developed by the engineering quality monitoring company is capable of autonomously planning inspection paths, avoiding obstacles on its own, issuing real-time alerts for defects, and using laser scanning of the tank bottom to assist in map creation; this enables fully autonomous inspection of a tank bottom area of nearly 5,000 square meters. In practical applications, compared to manual inspection, this robot reduces the inspection cycle for a single storage tank from 16 days to 4 days. The inspection results obtained by the robot are highly consistent with those achieved through manual inspection, thereby effectively improving the efficiency of inspection tasks as well as the level of intrinsic safety.
