The data sheet on the pressure vessel design drawings shows, for example, a design pressure of 1.0 MPa and an operating pressure of 0.8 MPa. So is the maximum allowable operating pressure 0.8 MPa? What is the meaning of the indicated working pressure?
Refer to GB150.1, clause 3.1.6.
When the pattern does not specify the maximum allowable operating pressure, the design pressure is the maximum allowable operating pressure. Operating pressure and the maximum allowable operating pressure are completely different; the former is determined by the operating conditions, while the latter is determined by the container.
For containers equipped with safety valves that require a leak test to be carried out by the manufacturer, the maximum allowable operating pressure can also exceed the design pressure :)
Working pressure, maximum working pressure, design pressure, maximum allowable working pressure
From low to high: operating pressure, maximum allowable pressure, design pressure, maximum operating pressure
The standards and specifications do not contain the terms “maximum allowable pressure” and “maximum operating pressure”. The 99th edition of the regulatory standards used the maximum operating pressure, while subsequent editions use the operating pressure (which is the highest pressure at the top of the container under normal operating conditions). The pressures, in order from lowest to highest, are: operating pressure, design pressure, maximum allowable operating pressure, and test pressure.
Operating pressure refers to the pressure at the top of the vessel during normal process operation, while the maximum operating pressure is the highest pressure that may occur during normal process operation. Design pressure is the pressure used to determine the calculated wall thickness of a vessel and the dimensions of its components at the corresponding design temperature. According to the Regulations on Safety Supervision of Pressure Vessels, the design pressure of a vessel shall not be lower than the maximum operating pressure. For pressure vessels equipped with safety relief devices, their design pressure shall not be lower than the opening pressure or burst pressure of such relief devices.
The design pressure should be greater than the maximum operating pressure
